About groups

Groups are a fundamental part of the Subud organisation. A group is a collection of Subud members who come together to take part in the spiritual practice of Subud known as the latihan.

Each group uses a Subud centre, private house or rented space to meet and do latihan. Like most other places of worship this provides the focus for group life.

Each official group has a committee of chairperson, secretary and treasurer, as well as male and female helpers (more experienced members). These people collectively organise latihans times and group meetings, look after the premises and finances and communicate with members. There are also several groups in Britain without a formal committee structure who meet in rented premises and attach themselves to a nearby, usually larger group for administrative purposes. These groups (known informally as sub-groups) cannot send representatives to congress and do not have their own bank accounts. In other ways, however, they function in the same way as the official groups.

There are about 70 groups in Britain, and these are divided into 8 regions. Use the list to the left to look up the details of any of these groups. Alternatively, use the map to find a group.

This section of the site is self-administered by the groups themselves. If you notice that information is missing for your local group you may wish to contact your group committee about this.
